--- title: "BuildPrint: schematic mod for Minecraft (Fabric and NeoForge)" description: "BuildPrint is a client-side Fabric and NeoForge mod that shows any schematic as a ghost in your Minecraft world, tracks what is missing and helps you build it. Opens .litematic, .schem, .schematic, .nbt and Axiom .bp." url: https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint --- [All mods](https://voxelsprout.com/) ![BuildPrint logo](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint.webp) # BuildPrint A schematic mod for Minecraft, on Fabric and NeoForge Load a schematic, see it in your world, and build it. BuildPrint shows any schematic as a ghost in your world, with real block models. It tracks what you have placed, what is missing and what is wrong. Easy place makes placing the right block easy, the printer places blocks for you, and in creative you can paste a build in one go. [Get it on Modrinth](https://modrinth.com/mod/buildprint) [Wiki](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki) [Discord](https://discord.gg/CvdkGbEW4y) Also on [CurseForge](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/buildprint). New versions reach Modrinth first; CurseForge checks every file before it goes live. * [Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3](#versions), Fabric and NeoForge * Client-side only * Free Clip: A player floating over a house while the printer builds it layer by layer. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/printer.mp4 ## What it does Clip: A house shown as a see-through ghost on a grass field. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/ghost.mp4 ### See the build in your world A schematic shows as a ghost where you will build it, drawn with the real block models. * Chests, signs with their text, banners, item frames and armor stands are shown too * Several builds can be loaded at once, each shown or hidden on its own * Opacity, shading and the blue tint can be changed in the settings [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/the-ghost) Clip: A build with wrong, turned and extra blocks marked in color. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/colors.mp4 ### See what is left to do Wrong blocks, blocks turned the wrong way and blocks that should not be there each get their own color. The material list shows what you still need and updates as you build. It can count raw materials instead, you can tick off what you have, **Gather** keeps what is still to get on screen while you go out for it, and **Share** puts the list on voxelsprout.com. * Look at a block to read what it should be and what is there now * The next block to place is marked, based on what you carry * Things you cannot fix, like how far a crop has grown, are not counted as mistakes Wrong state: The right block, but turned or set the wrong way, or a container with the wrong items in it. Wrong block: A different block than the build asks for. Extra: A block where the build wants nothing. Missing: Not placed yet. The ghost shows what goes here. [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/status-colors) Clip: A half-built house with its ghost off to the side, then lined up on the house. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/align.mp4 ### Line a build up automatically Click **Auto** in the Loaded tab and BuildPrint finds where the build already stands in the world. It sets the position, rotation and mirroring to match, so you do not have to nudge it into place block by block. * For a half-finished build you pick up again, or a build someone shared * A build that is not started yet is lined up with the ground it was saved on, if the schematic includes it * Tells you how much of the build matches, and leaves the build where it was if nothing nearby matches It searches 12 chunks around you by default, up to 32, and only reads chunks your game has loaded. [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/moving-and-aligning) Clip: Pixel art of a golden apple being filled in block by block. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/easyplace.mp4 ### Place blocks with easy place Turn on easy place and right-click the ghost. The right block goes down, facing the right way. * Blocks swap into your hand from your inventory * Hold right-click to sweep across a row * Sets repeater delay, candle counts, double slabs and open doors * Writes the text on signs Off by default. It makes placing much easier than by hand, and many servers count that as cheating. Check the rules first. [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/easy-place) Clip: A player floating over a house while the printer builds it layer by layer. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/printer.mp4 ### Or let the printer do it The printer places the missing blocks around you while you move. It uses the blocks in your inventory and stays within your normal reach. * Builds layer by layer from the bottom, and in each layer the structure before the decoration * What is under your feet goes in first, the blocks around you at your height last * Waits for the server to confirm a block before building against it * Speed and range can be set lower Off by default. The printer places blocks for you, and many servers count that as cheating. Check the rules first. [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/printer) Clip: A tower going up one layer at a time. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/layers.mp4 ### Build one layer at a time The layer view shows one layer, or a few, of a build. Easy place and the printer then only work in those layers. * Step up and down with . and , * The material list can count just the layers on screen * The status colors only mark the layers you are looking at [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/layer-view) Clip: The same house shown in diamond, gold, emerald and amethyst. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/swap.mp4 ### Swap materials Build it out of something else. Pick a block in the material list and choose a replacement. * The ghost, the material list, easy place and the printer all follow * Stairs and slabs keep their direction * Your file is not changed, and every swap can be undone [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/swap-materials) Clip: The hoppers and chests of an item sorter showing the items they need, then being filled. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/contents.mp4 ### See what goes inside containers Chests, hoppers, droppers, crafters and other containers show the items the schematic has in them. Open one and the wanted items sit in the slots as ghosts. * Look at a container to see its slots with the counts and the comparator signal they give * **Fill** moves the wanted items over from your inventory * A container with the wrong contents is marked like a block in the wrong state * In single-player, containers near you are checked without opening them On a server the game only tells your client what is in a container while it is open. One you have not opened yet shows as not checked. [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/container-contents) Clip: A house shown as a ghost, pasted into the world, undone and pasted again. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/paste.mp4 ### Paste it in creative In creative mode you can put a whole build into the world in one go, and take it back out with undo. * Only the layers in view are pasted, so a big build can go in a few layers at a time * Choose whether the schematic's air clears the box and whether blocks already there are kept * **Fill containers** puts the schematic's items into chests and hoppers that already stand in the world * Works in single-player, and on servers through VoxelSprout Policy, Axiom, operator commands or WorldEdit Creative mode only. A server can turn paste off or limit its size. [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/paste) Clip: The selection editor with a box around a house. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/editor.mp4 ### Save your own builds Press G for the editor. The camera flies free while your player stays put, which helps in survival. On a server that does not allow a free camera, you edit from where you stand. * Click two blocks to select an area, shift-click to add another * Resize with handles that snap to the block grid * Saves blocks, signs, banners and decoration such as armor stands as a `.litematic` * Everything it does also has a command: `/buildprint select` and `/buildprint place` * In single-player the file includes what is inside the containers [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/editor) ### Easy break Hold left-click to break only wrong and extra blocks. Blocks that are right are left alone. [Read more](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/easy-destroy) ### Gather One click in the material list keeps what is still to get on screen while you go out for it, and the crafting table says what to make. [Read more](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/material-list#gather) ### Auto align Lines a schematic up with a build that is already partly standing, so you do not have to nudge it into place. [Read more](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/moving-and-aligning) ### Works with Sorted With Sorted installed, the material list shows how many of each block are in your chests, and can light those chests up. [About Sorted](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted) ## The menu Press B in the game. Pick a tab to see it. Local tab: Your schematics/ folder with subfolders, search, recent files, favorites and a 3D preview you can turn. Loaded tab: What is in your world. Move, turn, flip or hide a build, set its layer view, or line it up with the world. Marketplace tab: Builds from the VoxelSprout marketplace. Download one or place it in your world in one click. No account needed. Materials tab: What the build needs, what is placed and what you carry. Count raw materials, tick off what you have, swap a block for another, share the list, or Gather: what is still to get stays on screen wherever you go. ![The Local tab with a list of files and a 3D preview of a house](https://voxelsprout.com/media/buildprint/menu-local.webp) ## Builds to start from, and building together ### Marketplace The Marketplace tab shows community builds from this site. Download one, or place it in your world in one click. On the site you can turn every build around in 3D first. * No account needed to browse or build * Publish your own builds from the game [Browse the marketplace](https://voxelsprout.com/marketplace) [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/marketplace) ### Build it together Start a session and share the code or link. Everyone who joins sees the same builds in the same place, and the progress as others build. * Nothing to install on the server * People without the file get it from the session, if you share it * The link opens a live page with the material list * Gathering, whoever picks a material up gets it, so nobody goes out for the same thing [How sessions work](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/build-together) ## Compared to Litematica In these tests BuildPrint ran at two to four times Litematica's frame rate, and loaded big builds without freezing the game: 3 big builds showed up after 2.4 seconds, against 43 seconds in Litematica. Frame rate in four tests, as shown by the F3 screen, with the same builds from the same spot. Higher is better. Venice district (568k blocks): BuildPrint 258 fps, Litematica 121 fps. 3 big builds in a row (1M blocks): BuildPrint 272 fps, Litematica 90 fps. 24 builds side by side (640k blocks): BuildPrint 229 fps, Litematica 95 fps. 10 big builds in one spot (3.6M blocks): BuildPrint 199 fps, Litematica 47 fps. How this was tested: MacBook Pro, Apple M4 Max, 36 GB, macOS. Minecraft 26.3 with Fabric, no other performance mods. BuildPrint 0.1.11, Litematica 0.29.1 with MaLiLib 0.30.2\. One game with both mods installed. Each test loaded the same builds into BuildPrint, then into Litematica, in the same world and from the same spot. Only one mod had builds loaded at a time. The order was BuildPrint, Litematica, Litematica, BuildPrint, so heat affects both the same. 1920 x 1080, render distance 24, VSync and the frame rate cap off, a flat world. Both mods on default settings, except BuildPrint's lag guard, which was off: it lowers detail when the frame rate drops. Real player builds, loaded one at a time. Each test waited until the mod had finished building its meshes, recorded 10 seconds, then took the screenshot with the F3 screen on. One machine, one run. Your numbers will be different. ### Features side by side | Feature | BuildPrint | Litematica | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- | | Opens .litematic files | Yes | Yes | | Easy place | Yes | Yes | | Material list | Yes | Yes | | Shows what goes inside containers | Also fills them from your inventory | Yes | | Printer | Built in | Add-ons by other developers | | Build together in sync sessions | Nothing to install on the server | Syncmatica add-on, on the server and every client | | Easy break (breaks only wrong and extra blocks) | Yes | No | | Swap materials from the material list | Yes | No | | Marketplace in game | Yes | No | | 3D preview while picking a file | Yes | No | | Builds only show in the world you placed them in, on servers with several worlds | Yes | No | | Axiom .bp blueprints | Yes | No | | Paste a build in creative | Also on servers without operator status, through VoxelSprout Policy | Needs operator commands on a server | | Fill or replace an area with one block | No | Yes | | Schematic projects (saved versions of a build) | No | Yes | Compared with Litematica 0.29.1 on Minecraft 26.3, September 2026\. Where do I start? With the walkthrough that opens the first time you join a world. It shows how to load a build, put it in place, read the colours and build it, with small live scenes, and lets you set your keys. It takes a minute. Skipped it? Type `/buildprint onboarding` in chat to run it again. After that, [Getting started](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/getting-started) covers the same ground in more detail. ### Which key opens the menu? B. Up to 0.1.25 it was M, and a video or an older answer may still say so. A key you set yourself stays as it was. If B does nothing, another mod probably uses it too. Press Esc, open **Options...**, **Controls...** and **Key Binds...**, and look in the **BuildPrint** group for **Open menu**: a key shown in red is taken. Give it another one. See [Shortcuts](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/shortcuts). ### How do I load a schematic? Press B to open the menu, pick the file in the **Local** tab and click **Load**. It shows as a ghost where you stand. The Local tab lists the `schematics` folder in your Minecraft folder, so put downloaded files there. Or drop a file onto the game window, or click **Place** on a build in the **Marketplace** tab. Then put it where you want it with the editor (G). See [Getting started](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/getting-started#load-a-schematic). ### How do I move a schematic to where I want it? With the editor. Press G, press 4 for **Place** and left-click the ground where it should go. Then 5 for **Move** to drag it with the arrows and 6 for **Rotate** to turn it. Esc when it sits right. Pictures and every tool are on [the editor page](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/editor#put-a-build-in-place). To type exact coordinates instead, open the menu with B and use [**Position**](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/settings#setting-position) in the **Loaded** tab. Auto align is only for a build that is already partly standing. See [Moving and aligning](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/moving-and-aligning). ### Does it place the blocks for me? Only if you turn that on. By default you place every block yourself, with the ghost showing where. With easy place (N) you right-click the ghost and the right block goes down the right way. The printer places the missing blocks around you while you move through the build. Press B, click the gear at the bottom right, and turn on [**Printer mode (auto-build)**](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/settings#setting-printer-mode-auto-build) in the **Building** tab. Many servers count the printer as cheating, so check the rules first. See [The printer](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/printer). ### The menu looks different from the pictures, or a setting is missing. You probably have an older version. New versions go up on Modrinth and CurseForge at the same time, but CurseForge checks every file before it shows, and that can take days. The newest version is on [Modrinth](https://modrinth.com/mod/buildprint) first. To see which version you have, look at BuildPrint in Mod Menu on Fabric or the mod list on NeoForge. The [changelog](https://modrinth.com/mod/buildprint/changelog) says what each version changed. ### Which Minecraft versions does it work on? Fabric on every Minecraft version from 1.21.1 to 1.21.11 and from 26.1 to 26.3, and NeoForge on 1.21.1, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5, 1.21.8, 1.21.10 and 1.21.11 and on 26.1.2 to 26.3\. Minecraft 1.21 itself isn't supported: play 1.21.1\. There is a file for each version and loader, and every version has everything BuildPrint does. On Fabric you also need Fabric API; Mod Menu is optional. On NeoForge nothing else is needed. ### Do I need an account? No. Loading, building, the marketplace and joining a session all work without one. You only sign in to like builds or publish your own, and to start a session under your name. ### How do I set or change a key? The quickest way is the walkthrough: type `/buildprint onboarding`, go to the shortcut pages, click a key and press the one you want. Each key has a line on what it does, and one that something else also uses shows in red. Or in the game's own Controls screen: press Esc, click **Options...**, **Controls...** and **Key Binds...**, and scroll to the **BuildPrint** group. Click the button next to an action and press a key. The printer, easy break, the view filter, the status panel, container contents and hiding builds have no key until you set one. A key for **Toggle Printer** turns the printer on and off without opening the settings, and shows **Printer ON** or **Printer OFF** above the hotbar. All keys are on the [Shortcuts](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/shortcuts) page. ### Can I use it on any server? BuildPrint only runs on your client, so it works on any server you can join. Showing a ghost and the material list change nothing in the world. Easy place and placing in mid-air make placing much easier than by hand, and the printer places blocks for you. Many servers count that as cheating. Whether you are allowed to use them is up to the server, so check the rules. All three are off by default. ### My build is hidden and says it was placed in another world. Some servers run a hub, a survival world and more behind one address, which look like one world to your game. So BuildPrint remembers the bedrock under a build when you place it, and only shows the build where that bedrock matches. In another world it is hidden, not removed, and it shows again when you go back to its own world. If it is hidden in the world it belongs to, go to another dimension and back, or rejoin: the ground under the build may not have loaded yet when it was checked. If the server only has one world, turn off [**World fingerprinting**](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/settings#setting-world-fingerprinting) in the **Schematics** tab of the settings. See [Several worlds behind one address](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/servers#several-worlds-behind-one-address). ### Can I keep using my Litematica files? Yes. BuildPrint opens `.litematic` files directly and saves in the same format. On first launch it offers to bring over your Litematica placements, so your builds show up where you left them. Your files are not changed. ### Can I make my own schematics? Yes, with the editor. Press G to open it (B up to 0.1.25). Pick **Select** with 1 and click two corners of the build, fit the box with **Resize** on 2, and save it with **Save** on 3. The file goes into your `schematics/` folder as a `.litematic`, to load or share. See [The editor](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/editor). ### Can I paste a build into the world in creative? Yes. Load the build, open the Loaded tab and click **Paste**. It goes in in one go, with chest contents and sign text, and **Undo** takes it back. Only the layers in view are pasted. See [Paste](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/paste). In single-player it writes straight into the world. On a server it uses VoxelSprout Policy if the server has it, otherwise Axiom, `/fill` commands if you are an operator, or WorldEdit. With FAWE the build goes up in one piece, which is much faster. Otherwise, without operator status the server lets commands through at about one a second, so a big build takes a while that way. ### How do I see the whole build again, not one layer? That is the layer view. Press B, open the **Loaded** tab, select the build and set **Layers** to **Off** in the **View** group. The . and , keys turn the layer view on, so a stray press can switch it on. To see a few layers instead of one, leave it on and use **\-** and **+** on the **Range** row. See [Layer view](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint/wiki/layer-view). ### Does it work with shaders? The ghost shows under Iris shader packs. Players have tested it with Complementary, BSL, Bliss, Photon and I Like Vanilla, also on very large builds and together with Voxy and Better Clouds. The pack does not light or shadow the ghost: it is drawn on top of the finished picture. ### Something is broken. What should I send? Run `/buildprint report` in game, or click **Write a report...** in the **Help** tab of the settings. You see everything that would be sent, with names and paths taken out, and nothing goes until you press **Send**. When there is an answer, the game tells you.
