--- title: "Sorted: inventory sorting and Quick Stack for Minecraft (Fabric and NeoForge)" description: "Sorted is a client-side Minecraft mod that sorts your inventory and chests, puts items away in the chests that already hold them, and finds anything you have stored. Fabric 1.21 to 26.3, NeoForge 26.1.2 to 26.3." url: https://voxelsprout.com/sorted --- [All mods](https://voxelsprout.com/) ![Sorted logo](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted.webp) # Sorted An inventory and storage mod for Minecraft, on Fabric and NeoForge Sort your chests, put things away, and find them again. Sorted adds a few buttons to your inventory and chest screens. They sort, move items to the chests that already hold them, and search everything you have put away. Nothing is needed on the server. [Get it on Modrinth](https://modrinth.com/mod/sorted) [Wiki](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki) [Discord](https://discord.gg/CvdkGbEW4y) Also on [CurseForge](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/sorted). New versions reach Modrinth first; CurseForge checks every file before it goes live. * [Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3](#versions), Fabric and NeoForge * Client-side only * Free Clip: A full inventory after mining, emptied into the right chests of a storage room with one click. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/sorted/quick-stack.mp4 ### Put everything away in one click Stand in your storage room, open your inventory and click **Quick Stack**. Every stack goes to the nearby chest that already holds that item, or the same material. * Raw iron goes to the chest with your iron, spruce stairs to the chest with your spruce * The chests that took something light up for a moment * Items that have no chest yet stay with you. Shift+Click puts those away too, in the chest that fits best * Chests, barrels, shulker boxes and ender chests within reach [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/quick-stack) Clip: A chest full of mixed items sorted with one click, then laid out in rows. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/sorted/sort-chest.mp4 ### Sort a chest One click sorts the open chest and puts what belongs together side by side. Shift+Click lays it out in columns, Ctrl+Click in rows, Alt+Click compact. * A plain click picks the layout that suits what is in the chest, or the one you set in the settings * Each chest remembers the layout you picked * Partial stacks of the same item are merged first [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/sorting-chests) Clip: A messy inventory sorted with one click. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/sorted/sort-inventory.mp4 ### Sort your inventory Press R with your inventory open, or click the sort button. Tools, weapons and armor come first, then food, then blocks grouped by material, then the rest. * Your hotbar is not touched * The same order every time, so you know where to look * Sorting on pickup is an option, off by default [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/sorting-your-inventory) Clip: Shulker boxes in an inventory with their contents on the lid, then sorted next to matching items. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/sorted/shulkers.mp4 ### Tell your shulker boxes apart A shulker box in your inventory shows its main item on the lid, so you can see which box is which without hovering each one. Sorting puts each box next to the items it holds. * Also on the hotbar, in chests and on dropped boxes * Hover a box for the full list, as usual * An empty box shows no item [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/container-labels) Clip: Rockets and golden carrots kept with Alt+Click, then Quick Empty moves everything else into a chest. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/sorted/keep.mp4 ### Keep what you need Hold Alt and click an item: it is no longer sent to chests. Alt+Scroll sets a number instead. Keep 2 stacks of rockets, and only what is above that leaves. * Hold Alt, or hover Quick Stack or Quick Empty, to see which stacks stay * Rules follow the item, not the slot, so sorting does not undo them * Ender chests and elytra are kept from the start * `/sorted keep` lists every rule, and a list can be shared as a code [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/keep-list) Clip: Searching for iron from the room next door, and the chests that hold it lighting up through the wall. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/sorted/search.mp4 ### Find an item Sorted remembers what was in every chest, barrel and shulker box you have opened, per world and per server. Press \` and type a name to see the total and which containers hold it. * Click a result and those containers light up, through walls * Search the room you are in, your base, what is loaded or the whole world * A grid of icons, or a list with the nearest container and how far away it is [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/search) Clip: A storage room where every chest, barrel and shulker box shows its contents and name. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/sorted/labels.mp4 ### See inside without opening Placed shulker boxes show what is in them on top, with the name you gave them. Chests and barrels can do the same once you turn it on. * Choose how many items show and from how far * On a wall or a ceiling, the label sits on the side the lid opens from * On a server, a container shows its contents after you have opened it once Labels on chests and barrels are off by default. Turn them on in the settings, in the In the world tab. [How it works](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/container-labels) ### After you die Pick your items back up and each goes to the slot it was in, hotbar and armor included. [Read more](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/after-you-die) ### Looks like the game The buttons use vanilla button frames, so a resource pack that restyles buttons restyles these too. [The buttons](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/the-buttons) ### Works with BuildPrint With BuildPrint installed, its material list shows how many of each block are in your chests, and can light them up. [About BuildPrint](https://voxelsprout.com/buildprint) ## What goes together Sorted groups things by what they are, not by their names. A click sorts, and Ctrl+Click lays the same chest out in rows. Pick a chest to see it. Redstone chest: Dust, torches, repeaters and comparators share a row. Pistons get the next one, then droppers, dispensers and hoppers, then rails. Wood chest: Each kind of wood gets its own row, with logs, planks, stairs, slabs, fences and doors in the same order every time. Mixed chest: A chest things were thrown into for weeks. Tools and food end up together, blocks by material, and the odd items after them. Clip: A redstone chest sorted with one click, then laid out in rows. Video: https://voxelsprout.com/media/sorted/sort-redstone.mp4 ## On servers Sorted only runs on your client, so it works on vanilla servers, Realms and in modpacks. Everything it does is the clicks you could make by hand, only faster. Whether you may use it is up to the server, so check the rules. ### A limited speed Clicks go out as a row, 15 a tick by default. If a server kicks you during a sort, Sorted slows down on that server and remembers it. ### Shops left alone Chest screens a server uses as a shop or a menu get no buttons and are never sorted, so a click cannot buy something. ### Off where it is banned On servers that do not allow automation, such as Hypixel, Sorted switches itself off completely. You can add servers to the list. Open a chest and click the sort button above it, on the right. For your inventory, press R or click the sort button under it. Your hotbar is left alone. Shift, Ctrl or Alt with the click sorts a chest in columns, rows or compact. See [Sorting chests](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/sorting-chests) and [Sorting your inventory](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/sorting-your-inventory). ### How do I put everything away in my chests? Stand near your chests, open your inventory and click **Quick Stack**. Every stack goes to a chest within reach that already holds that item or the same material, and those chests light up. Your hotbar stays, and so does anything on your [The keep list](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/keep-list). See [Quick Stack](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/quick-stack). ### Which Minecraft versions does it work on? Fabric on every Minecraft version from 1.21.1 to 1.21.11 and from 26.1 to 26.3, and NeoForge on 1.21.1, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5, 1.21.8, 1.21.10 and 1.21.11 and on 26.1.2 to 26.3\. Minecraft 1.21 itself isn't supported: play 1.21.1\. Every version has the same Sorted, with the same screens and settings, and only needs Fabric API on Fabric. The Modrinth app picks the right file for you. 1.21.11 and 26.3 on Fabric, and 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 on NeoForge, are played before each release. The others are built from the same code but not tested each time, so a bug report for them helps. ### Does the server need it too? No. Sorted only runs on your client. It works on vanilla servers, Realms and in modpacks. ### How do I set or change a key? In the game's own Controls screen: press Esc, click **Options...**, **Controls...** and **Key Binds...**, and scroll to the **Inventory** group. The Sorted keys are there: **Sorted: Open Container Search**, **Sorted: Quick Sort Inventory** and **Sorted: Open Keep List**. Click the button next to one and press a key. Sort is on R and search on \`. The keep list has no key until you set one. ### Can I use it on any server? It runs on your client, so it works on any server you can join. It moves items with the same clicks you would make by hand, only faster. Some servers do not allow inventory mods, so check the rules. Sorted has a list of servers that ban this kind of mod, and switches itself off completely when you join one. See [Servers](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/servers). ### The buttons are missing in a chest on a server. Servers use chest screens for shops, auction houses and menus. When a chest looks like one of those, Sorted hides its buttons there, so a click can never buy something. If it is a real chest, type `/sorted menuguard off` to turn this off on that server, or add the chest title to [**Always-allow menu titles**](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/settings#setting-always-allow-menu-titles). ### Quick Stack left some items in my inventory. Quick Stack only puts an item in a chest that already holds a fair amount of it, or of the same material. One stray item in a chest full of other things does not count, so that chest is skipped. Items with no chest stay with you. Shift+Click Quick Stack to put those away too, in the chest that fits best. Also check the [The keep list](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/keep-list): kept items never leave. ### How do I find an item in my chests? Press \`, or click the magnifier under your inventory, and type its name in **Find Items**. Click the item and every container that holds it lights up, through walls. It finds what is in the containers you have opened. See [Search](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/search). ### Something is broken. What should I send? Type `/sorted report`, or press **Write a report...** in the Help tab of the settings. You see everything that would be sent, and nothing goes until you press **Send**. When your report gets an answer, the game tells you. Or share your `latest.log`, from the `logs` folder of your Minecraft folder, with the Minecraft version, your loader (Fabric or NeoForge), the Sorted version and a short description of what happened, on [Discord](https://discord.gg/CvdkGbEW4y). See [Bug reports](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/wiki/bug-reports). [All questions](https://voxelsprout.com/sorted/faq) Sorted is made by one person. Bugs and ideas are welcome on Discord.
