Foliage

What is done to the crown once the leaves are placed.

  Pockets and windows taken out of the crown in patches, so it reads as foliage and not as a solid. Higher shows the branches, and lets the flowers and fruit be seen.

• Flowers and fruitThe leaf palette's arrangements set into the foliage: flowers boxed in like fruit, petals and carpet on the lit tops.

Wood

What is done to the trunk and branches once they are grown.

• Bark growthTrapdoors, signs and shelves pinned flat to the trunk: burrs, fungus, flaking bark.
• Branch collarsFence gates where a limb leaves the trunk, so the join has a shoulder.
• Thin twigsBranches thinning from log to fence or wall as they reach out. Off, every branch stays a log.

Ground

Where the tree meets the terrain.

• RootsThe trunk flaring into the ground with stairs and slabs, and roots crawling out from the base.
• Ground pad A disc of soil under the tree, so it stands on something in the preview.
• Buried depthsurface only

  How many courses of soil the roots may build into. Zero suits pasting onto terrain that already exists; turned up, every root system grows its buried half.
