Questions about Charted

A Minecraft mod with a minimap, a world map and waypoints. It runs on your computer only, so it works on vanilla servers and Realms with nothing installed on the server. See Getting started.

Minecraft 26.1 to 26.3 on Fabric (with Fabric API) and NeoForge (26.1.2 and newer), and 1.21.1 to 1.21.11 on Fabric. Each Minecraft version gets a file of its own.

The 1.21 versions have the same maps, waypoints and radar as 26.x. Before 1.21.6 the game has no locator bar, so the minimap shows no heads of far-off players there.

Yes. Charted is free to download and use. It is not open source: the license is All Rights Reserved, like the other VoxelSprout mods.

Yes. Use Charted in any modpack and show it in any video, monetized or not. No need to ask. A modpack can also ship waypoints of its own; see Waypoints in a modpack.

No. Charted runs on your client only, so it works on vanilla servers and Realms.

Charted tells them apart by what it sees (the world's age, its spawn, its bedrock) and by the world ids servers send for other map mods, so each gets its own map. When it can't be sure, it asks instead of mixing two maps. See Servers.

It follows what a server set up for Xaero's Minimap and JourneyMap, such as no cave view or no radar, and says in the settings what the server turned off. On servers whose rules don't allow minimaps, starting with Hypixel, it stays off unless you take the server off that list.

Each server has its own rules. When in doubt, read them or ask the staff.

Hypixel's rules don't allow minimaps, so it is on the list Servers Charted stays off on, under Storage in the settings, and a line in chat says so. You can take a server off the list, at your own risk.

That server turned it off, for Xaero's Minimap or JourneyMap, and Charted follows it. The Minimap tab of the settings says what the server holds back. Your own choices are kept and apply again on other servers.

Charted keeps a map per world behind one address and folds two back together once land shows they are one. If it took a known world for a new one, the chat line it shows has a button, It's the same world, that brings the map and waypoints over. See Servers.

Charted maps on threads of its own, next to the game, and sends the map to the screen a little at a time. Map memory under Storage sets how much of the map it keeps in memory, from 64 to 2048 MB, 256 MB by default.

No. Waypoints from Xaero's Minimap and JourneyMap come over for every world at once, and maps from Xaero's World Map, JourneyMap and Bobby without covering what Charted mapped itself. Their files are only read, never changed. See Switching from another map mod.

Press J for a new waypoint where you stand. On the world map, right-click a spot and pick Waypoint here, or Go here for one that goes once you arrive. Coordinates someone posted in chat are a click away too. See Waypoints.

Charted marks your last few death points with a broken heart, and counts down until your items despawn. The time only runs while you are near enough for the game to count it. See Waypoints.

Right-click it on the world map or in the list and pick Share in chat. Chat gets a line anyone can read, such as Base: 100 64 -20 (nether, #d24c4c), and another Charted player saves it with one click. See Sharing in chat.

Turn on Cave view under Map in the settings. Underground, the minimap then shows the 16-block layer you are in. On the world map, drag the depth bar on its right side to any height. It is off by default because many servers do not allow it. See Caves, the Nether and the End.

Players and tamed animals show by default; Hostile mobs and Other mobs are off until you turn them on under Minimap in the settings. Choose beside each picks single mobs. See The radar.

No. The map shows the top of the world, and with cave view the caves you are near. The depth bar on the world map says which ores a depth has, from what lies open in caves, never what is hidden in the rock and never where one is. See Caves, the Nether and the End.

Yes. Turn off Show the minimap under Minimap in the settings, or give Show or hide the minimap a key in Options, Controls. The world map, waypoints and beams stay.

In the charted/maps folder of your Minecraft folder, a folder per world and server, with its waypoints in it. The settings are in config/charted.json, and pictures of the map go to screenshots/charted.

Yes. Waypoint beams, markers and everything Charted draws in the world stay right with Iris and its packs, and show through water, glass and ice.

Yes. Right-click the world map and pick Save the map as a picture, or type /charted export. The whole map is saved to screenshots/charted, done in the background.

/charted reset puts every setting back to its default, and /charted reset minimap only one tab.

Type /charted report in game, or say it on Discord.
