Servers
Several worlds behind one address, the server rules Charted follows, and the servers it stays off on.
Charted needs nothing on a server. It works on vanilla servers and Realms, and keeps a map per world. Waypoints and maps are kept per server address, in the charted/maps folder of your Minecraft folder.
Several worlds behind one address #
Many servers have several worlds behind one address: a lobby, survival, a resource world, minigames. Charted tells them apart so each gets its own map and waypoints:
- By what it sees: the world's age, its spawn, its seed and its bedrock. So it needs no land in common, and a warp, a far teleport or a death somewhere new keeps the right map.
- By the world ids servers send for other map mods: Xaero's Minimap's, JourneyMap's, VoxelMap's and FTB Chunks'. A server with MapModCompanion or a plugin like it gets one map per world without asking anything of you. Charted needs none of them.
- When it cannot be sure, it asks instead of mixing two maps: a line in chat says it maps this as another world, with It's the same world to join them.
- Once land shows a "new" world was a known one, it folds the maps back together, waypoints too.
- A resource world or arena the server wipes starts a fresh map in the same world; the old one is kept beside it.
- A game server's rounds and rotating maps stay one world, and a new round starts blank.
- A friend's world over LAN or through a hosting mod finds its map again each time.
Follow /server #
Follow /server (experimental), under Storage, off by default. On a network of servers behind one address, Charted notes which server you ask for with /server <name> and keeps a map per server. Only your own commands are read; nothing is sent.
Server rules #
Charted follows what a server set up for Xaero's Minimap and JourneyMap, so a server set up for either gets the same from Charted:
| A server can turn off | Through |
|---|---|
| Cave view | Xaero's fair play (which can still allow it in the Nether), JourneyMap's permissions |
| Mobs on the map, players on the map | Xaero's fair play, JourneyMap's permissions (hostile and other mobs each on their own) |
| The minimap | Xaero's codes, JourneyMap's permissions |
| Teleporting from the map | JourneyMap's permissions |
| Waypoints, death points | JourneyMap's permissions |
| Coordinates | JourneyMap's hidden coordinates: the lines under the minimap, the world map's pointer box, the waypoint editor and sharing in chat leave the numbers out |
| Far players on the minimap | The game's own locator bar rule |
Chat says "This server has turned off:" and what, and the top of the Minimap tab in the settings says it too, so a missing feature is never a mystery. Your settings are kept and apply again on other servers.
Servers Charted stays off on #
Some servers' rules don't allow minimaps at all. They start on the list Servers Charted stays off on, under Storage in the settings, beginning with Hypixel. There Charted is off, and a line in chat says so.
Removing a server from the list turns Charted on there, at your own risk. On Hypixel the map then starts empty for each game and shows only what you see: no radar, cave view, biome view, slime chunks or teleporting.
