Settings

Every setting, tab by tab, with its default.

/charted config, or Charted in Mod Menu or in NeoForge's mod list. The settings come in the Minecraft look or the VoxelSprout look, as you pick. A changed setting has a mark after its name, and so does its tab. /charted reset puts them all back, /charted reset minimap one tab.

Presets #

Under Start from: Simple, Explorer, Survival and Everything. See Getting started.

Minimap #

At the top, what the server you are on holds back, if anything.

Show the minimap default On
The small map in the corner of the screen. Move it, resize it or give it another corner in the HUD tab.
Turn with me default On
The map turns so the way you face is always up, with N on the edge pointing north. Off: north is always up and the arrow turns.
Compass letters default On
N, E, S and W on the edge of the minimap, north in red. They turn with the map when it turns.
Opacity default 100%
How solid the minimap is, 20% to 100%. Lower lets the world show through.
Hide in menus default On
The minimap steps away while an inventory or another menu is open. Chat keeps it. F1 always hides it, with the rest of the HUD.
Hide while the player list is open default On
The minimap steps away while you hold the player list key (Tab).

Radar #

Other players default On
Players near you on the minimap and the world map, with their names on the world map. Only who the game already shows you.
NPCs default On
Characters a server places that look like players but aren't in the tab list. Shown like mobs: smaller, under real players, with a gold edge, and gone when zoomed far out.
Hostile mobs default Off
Zombies, creepers and the like. Choose beside it picks single mobs.
Other mobs default Off
Animals, villagers and other mobs. Choose beside it picks single mobs.
Tamed animals default On
Pets and mounts tamed by anyone, with a blue edge round their face. Always shown, each on its own, with its name on the world map when it has one.
Faces default On
Each player and mob as the front of its head, cut from its own skin. Off: dots in their color.
Far players default On
Players beyond the minimap as their heads on its edge, as the locator bar shows them. Not before Minecraft 1.21.6.

Lines under the map #

Coordinates default On
Where you are: X, Y and Z.
Direction default Off
The way you face: north, southeast and so on.
Time of day default Off
The time in the world, as a clock: 6:00 is sunrise, 18:00 sunset.
Biome default Off
The biome you are standing in.

Folded under More lines:

Other side of a portal default Off
In the Overworld, where you would be in the Nether, and the other way round. For lining up portals.
Light level default Off
The block light where you stand. At 0 mobs can spawn there, and the line turns yellow.
Day count default Off
How many days the world has been going, as the game counts them: the first day is day 0.
Speed default Off
How fast you go, in blocks a second, while flying, gliding or riding.

Waypoints #

Where they show:

On the minimap default On
Waypoints as dots on the minimap. One off the map sits on its edge, in its direction.
In the world default On
Each waypoint's marker where it is, with how far it is. Look at one to see its name.
Beams default On
A beam of light up from each waypoint in its color, so it can be seen from far off.
Beams up to default 1000 blocks
How far away a waypoint's beam still shows, 50 to 10000 blocks. Markers show at any distance, except for nearby waypoints.

Made for you:

Death points default Last 5
Where you died, as a waypoint, so you can find your things again. Off, or up to the last 20; the newest are kept.
Respawn point default On
Where you came back after dying: your bed, your anchor or the world's spawn. One, the newest.
Nether portals default Off
Each nether portal you go through, on both sides, linked, so you can find the way back.
Coordinates in chat default On
Coordinates in chat are underlined: click one to save it as a waypoint, go there with a temporary one, or see it on the world map. Shared waypoints from Xaero's Minimap and JourneyMap work too.
Share waypoints as default Charted
How Share in chat writes a waypoint: Charted's own line, or Xaero's or JourneyMap's. Charted reads all three. See Sharing in chat.
Banners on maps default On
Banners you mark on a map you hold become waypoints, in the group Map banners, and go again when you take them off the map.
Lodestone compasses default On
The lodestone each compass in your inventory points to becomes a waypoint, in the group Lodestones.
Waystones default On
Only with Waystones installed. Every waystone you've activated is a waypoint, in the group Waystones.

From other map mods:

From Xaero's Minimap and JourneyMap
Import brings over the waypoints those mods have on this computer, for every world at once. Ones already here are skipped. Their files are only read, never changed.
From a file
Choose file imports a waypoint file a friend sent, into the world you are in.

All waypoints: Waypoint list, Open: search, sort, edit, hide and delete.

Map #

Map style default Satellite
Satellite, Atlas or Minecraft. See Map looks.
Biome colors default On
Grass, leaves and water in the color of their biome, as you see them in the world. Off: one color for each block everywhere.
Water depth default On
Deeper water is drawn darker, so coasts, rivers and deep oceans are easy to tell apart. The ground under shallow water still shows.
Day and night default Off
The map turns a little darker at night, with the sky. Never so dark it cannot be read.
Fill the map from Distant Horizons default On
Only with Distant Horizons installed. Where you have not been, the map shows the terrain Distant Horizons has saved.
Buildprint's builds default On
Only with Buildprint installed. The builds loaded in Buildprint on both maps, with their name and how far along they are.
Sorted's storage default On
Only with Sorted installed. The chests Sorted knows about on both maps, and the ones it lights up as dots.
Cave view default Off
Underground, Charted maps the caves around you in layers of 16 blocks, and the minimap shows the layer you are in. Many servers do not allow it; where a server turns it off it stays off there.
The Nether in layers default On
The map shows the Nether cavern you're in, darker where the floor lies deep and with lava glowing. Off: the ground under the roof as one map.
Height shading default 60%
Slopes are lit from the north-west, so hills, valleys and cliffs stand out. Higher is stronger; off draws the map flat.

The world map's own switches (grids, slime chunks, your trail, biomes) are in its column. See The world map.

World map #

Open on me default On
The world map opens centered on you. Off: it opens where you left it.
Pointer info default On
The coordinates, height and biome of the spot under the pointer, at the bottom left of the world map.

Storage #

Map memory default 256 MB
How much of the map Charted keeps in memory, 64 to 2048 MB. More means less reading from disk when you look at far-away places; less leaves more for the game. The map on disk is the same either way.
Follow /server (experimental) default Off
On a network of servers behind one address, Charted notes which server you ask for with /server <name> and keeps a map per server. Only your own /server commands are read; nothing is sent.
Servers Charted stays off on default hypixel.net
Popular servers whose rules don't allow minimaps start on this list. Remove one to use Charted there, at your own risk. Add any server address to keep Charted off there too.

This map, for the world and dimension you are in: its size on disk and in memory, and:

Import maps from other mods
Brings over what Bobby, Xaero's World Map and JourneyMap have mapped of this world, every dimension. In single-player it also maps the whole world from its save.
Clear this map
Deletes everything Charted has mapped of the dimension you are in, in this world, after a second click. It is mapped again as you explore, ring by ring around you. Other dimensions and worlds keep their maps.

HUD and Help #

HUD opens the layout, where the minimap can be moved, resized or hidden. Help has the walkthrough and a way to report a bug.
