The radar

Players, NPCs, mobs and tamed animals on both maps, each as its own face, and the far players on the minimap's edge.

Players, and if you like mobs, on the minimap and the world map. Each one shows as its own face, built from its own model and skin, so resource packs and other mods' mobs look right.

Choose single mobs #

Choose beside Hostile mobs and Other mobs opens every mob the game knows, mods' too, each with its face, a search and an eye to show or hide it. Show all and Hide all do the lot.

Faces #

  • Fish and tadpoles show from the side, flat mobs from above, and a mob without a face to show gets its spawn egg.
  • Villagers wear their profession's hat and clothes, so a librarian is easy to find. Zombie villagers too.
  • Only the nearest few get a face; turn off Faces for dots in their color everywhere.

Calm by design #

  • A herd or a pack of one kind shows as one head.
  • Mobs far above or below you, a cave under your feet or a farm overhead, are left out.
  • A head never sits on another, heads grow in instead of popping up, and they stay put while you walk past.
  • Zoomed out, only what matters stays: players first, then hostile mobs, then animals. Tamed animals are never thinned out.
  • Waypoints are drawn over the heads.

Far players #

Players beyond the minimap show as their heads on its edge, under the compass letters, in the direction they are: smaller the farther they are, as the dots on the locator bar above the hotbar, with a white outline while you face them. It shows what the bar shows, no exact distance, and whoever the bar hides (sneaking, or wearing a pumpkin) stays hidden.

The locator bar came with Minecraft 1.21.6, so before that there are no far players.

Hover for more #

On the world map, hover a head for who or what it is, how far, how many blocks above or below you, and where. A tamed one says "Tamed" and its kind.
