The basics
What does BuildPrint do?
It loads a schematic file and shows it as a ghost in your world, so you can see where every block goes. It keeps track of what is placed, what is missing and what is wrong. Easy place makes placing the right block easy, and the printer places blocks for you.
Which Minecraft versions does it work on?
Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3, on Fabric. One file works on both. You also need Fabric API and YACL. Mod Menu is optional and gives you the settings screen from the mod list.
Does it work on Forge, NeoForge or Quilt?
BuildPrint is made and tested for Fabric. There is no Forge or NeoForge version.
Do I need an account?
No. Loading, building, the marketplace and joining a session all work without one. You only sign in to vote on builds or publish your own, and to start a session under your name.
Is it free?
Yes. If you want to support the work, there is a Ko-fi page.
Which languages is it in?
English, French and German. If something reads wrong, tell me on Discord.
How do I open the settings?
Press M and click Settings, or open BuildPrint from Mod Menu. Every option is described on the Settings page.
Servers and rules
Can I use it on any server?
BuildPrint only runs on your client, so it works on any server you can join. Showing a ghost and the material list change nothing in the world.
Easy place and angel placement make placing much easier than by hand, and the printer places blocks for you. Many servers count that as cheating. Whether you are allowed to use them is up to the server, so check the rules. All three are off by default.
Will I get banned for using it?
That depends on the server and what you turn on. The ghost and the material list only show things on your screen. Easy place and angel placement put blocks down in ways you could not by hand, and the printer places them without you clicking. Anti-cheat or staff can notice that. If the rules do not say, ask before you use them.
Can a server turn features off?
Yes, with BuildPrint Policy, a companion for server admins that is coming soon. A server can turn off easy place, drag place, easy destroy, angel placement, auto-rotate, the printer and saving schematics of its world, and it can limit the printer's speed and range.
When you join such a server a chat line says what is off. The shield in the top left of the BuildPrint menu, or /buildprint rules, shows the details. Your own settings are not changed. See Servers.
Does the server need to install anything?
No. BuildPrint is client-side only. Sync sessions also run without anything on the Minecraft server.
My build does not show up in another world on the same server.
On servers with several worlds behind one address, a build only shows in the world you placed it in. In other worlds it is hidden, not removed. This works in the overworld and the nether. You can turn it off in the settings under World fingerprinting.
Files and Litematica
Can I keep using my Litematica files?
Yes. BuildPrint opens .litematic files directly and saves in the same format. On first launch it offers to bring over your Litematica placements, so your builds show up where you left them. Your files are not changed.
Which file formats can it open?
.litematic, Sponge .schem, classic .schematic, vanilla structure .nbt and Axiom .bp. It saves as .litematic.
Where do I put my schematics?
In the schematics/ folder in your Minecraft folder. Subfolders work. You can also drop a file onto the game window, or use Open File... in the Local tab.
Can I run BuildPrint and Litematica together?
They can be installed side by side. The benchmark on this site was run that way, with only one of the two having builds loaded at a time.
Can I paste a build into the world in creative?
No. BuildPrint has no paste or fill. In creative the printer builds with any block without needing it in your inventory.
Are my builds remembered when I log out?
Yes. What is loaded, and where, is saved per world and per server and comes back when you join again. You can turn this off with Remember placements.
Building
Easy place says I need the block in my hotbar.
In survival you need to own the block. If it is anywhere in your inventory it is moved to your hand for you. If you do not have it at all, easy place cannot place it.
A block will not go down with easy place.
Easy place does not put down a block facing the wrong way. If it cannot reach the right direction from where you stand, try from another side. Some blocks need the block they rest on first. With Build prerequisites first on, that one is placed first.
Why did the printer stop?
The printer only places blocks you carry and only within your reach. Move through the build to print more. With the layer view on it only prints the layers on screen. A block that failed is not tried again until something changes, for example when you move.
The printer leaves barrels, pistons or observers unplaced.
With Face directional blocks yourself on, which is the default, the printer places these only while you look the right way. Turn to face the way the block should point. Turn the setting off to let the printer turn your view for them. That is faster, and some will land turned wrong.
Can it place waterlogged blocks?
There is an experimental setting, Auto-use water bucket, that is off by default. It can misfire. Without it, add the water by hand.
Why is a crop, a lit furnace or a leaf block not marked as wrong?
Those are states you cannot place, and some change on their own. With Survival sanity checks on they do not count as mistakes. Turn it off if you want every difference marked.
Can it fill chests or place mobs?
No. The ghost shows chests and decoration such as armor stands and item frames, but BuildPrint does not fill containers or spawn entities. Crafters are the exception: their locked slots are set, and their items can be put in if you turn that on.
Performance and shaders
Does it work with Sodium?
Yes. The clips on this site were recorded with Sodium installed.
Does it work with shaders?
Not every shader pack shows the ghost. Complementary and vanilla-style packs work. Photon does not show it yet.
A build disappeared and chat said BuildPrint hid it.
When the frame rate stays low, BuildPrint hides the nearest build to help the game recover. Show it again from the Loaded tab. To stop this, turn off Hide builds when lag persists in the Performance settings.
How big can a build be?
There is no fixed limit. In the tests on this site, ten large builds with 3.6 million blocks in total ran at 199 fps on an Apple M4 Max. Your numbers will be different.
When something is wrong
Something is broken. What should I send?
Run /buildprint report in game and share your latest.log on Discord, with a short description of what happened. See Bug reports for the other commands.
Item and tab icons in my inventory are invisible after changing shaders.
That is a bug in Iris on Minecraft 26.2, not in BuildPrint. It also happens without BuildPrint installed. Scrolling through the whole creative item list once brings the icons back.
The preview says the build is too large.
The 3D preview in the menu is skipped for very large builds. The build itself still loads and shows in the world.
